There are many types of synthetic grass that can be installed and maintained without any watering regimens. This means that you can use the same fake grass for years without strict rules about watering. The newer varieties of artificial grass do not need to be hosed down and are immune to weather-induced problems.
Synthetic grass has been around for decades. The earliest varieties of synthetic grass were manufactured while keeping their natural cousin in mind. It was a replication of the original grass except that the fake grass did not have a wilting ability. It, however, was prone to excessive drying that ultimately damaged the base material and one had to replace the grass. Watering was thus introduced as a way of keeping the fake turf soft and flexible.
Watering for artificial grass was not as strict as one for the real vegetation. It was only needed when one felt the grass was turning dry and losing its vigor. Manufacturers later started to recommend a once-a-week watering regimen for artificial turf. It was considered necessary to keep the fibers intact and prolong the life of fake turf. The lack of a proper watering regimen was considered detrimental as technology was not yet advanced during those times. Fibers tend to dislodge from their place due to lack of moisture and this was a major cause of failure.
The shortcomings of the earliest types of artificial turf have long been overcome. You can now easily find synthetic grass that requires little to no watering. This type of fake grass comes in a special construction where the fibers are placed in such a manner that they are not affected by heat or other weather conditions. The stitching and placement of fibers and the base material ensures that there is no weather-induced damage such as drying or rot. The fake turf still is a good absorbent of water but that quality is added to ensure proper drainage of rain water. Removing that capability will render the fake grass useless for outdoors where one cannot avoid exposure to rain.
The fake grass absorbs water that is later sent to the drainage channels present underneath the base material. This way, the top portion of the grass is quickly drained of moisture and you can take out the absorbed water through the outlets given in the base material. You can also install an automatic drainage system where a pipe can be added to the drainage channel.
Modern synthetic grass has not become independent of water alone. You no longer need to add a thick layer of soil under the base material to ensure proper installation of fake turf. You can install artificial grass in a covered area or even in your apartment. There is no need of exposure to the sun as the fake grass can be installed anywhere.
As there will be no watering requirements, the artificial grass will stay as healthy inside as it would in an outdoor environment. The same artificial turf can last for years and is an excellent option for those who want to conserve water for environmental reasons.
