Artificial Grass – The Truly Greener Grass

Posted by Matt Garrabrants on Sep 11, 2012

Artificial grass was first developed to be used as a baseball field turf or soccer turf. However, its appeal soon extended to homes when landscaping companies discovered how effective fake grass is in enhancing homes at a low cost and with minimum maintenance. One of the latest findings have made synthetic turf even more irresistible; according to studies, this type of turf is more eco-friendly than natural grass.

If this is news to you, read on to discover how artificial turf is greener than Mother Nature’s own grass.

Synthetic Grass Reserves Water
A natural lawn will require regular irrigation, maybe even twice a day during summer days. However, with water being a scarce resource, there are certain regulations which must be followed. As a result, you will be forced to either allow your plants to be dehydrated or break the rules. A fake lawn provides you with the beauty of a landscaped lawn without forcing you to go against water regulations. In fact, you will be applauded for saving water for better purposes.

An Artificial Lawn Doesn’t Require Chemicals
Natural grass blades are the perfect habitat for many garden pests. Insects and harmful plants can grow like wildfire in grass. As a result, most homeowners resort to pesticides to eliminate these dangers. However, these chemicals, along with chemical fertilizers, make their way into hidden water resources and contaminate them. Their vapors also contribute to widening the hole in the Ozone layer. On the other hand, Astro Turf and other forms of fake turf don’t require these pollutants. So, you can rest assured that you will be saving the environment from a major problem.

Artificial Lawn Grass Encourages Burning Less Fossil Fuels
When it comes to gardening, a considerable amount of fossil fuels is burned in order to operate machinery such as lawn mowers. However, not only is doing so a waste of exhaustible resources, but it is also a hefty contribution to the greenhouse gases that are plaguing the planet. Field turf offers a better solution because it doesn’t require the constant use of fuel-operated machinery. This is because it requires minor maintenance tasks such as washing with water and scooping litter.

Fake Turf Can Be Recycled Efficiently
By putting green turf, you are promoting recycling through three ways:

  1. By using the grass blades made from recycled plastics
  2. By promising to recycle your artificial turf once it is worn out in 15 years or so
  3. By providing very old fake grass to companies to burn as fuel

Fake Grass Protects the Soil Beneath
If you live in a windy area or a city prone to tornadoes and heavy rains, chances are that the soil in your backyard is arid. However, by installing fake grass on top, you will rest assured that the humus (the remains of dead creatures and foliage that is necessary for plants’ growth) will be available for you to grow plants whenever you have the time.

By installing artificial turf, you will contribute to the environment in these five ways. So, take a stand and help the ecosystem with synthetic grass.
