Synthetic Turf is FakeYou may have heard about this myth. It is actually not a myth but a fact. Synthetic turf is indeed a fake variant of its natural cousin. It is not like the natural grass. Manufacturers of artificial grass have never claimed that they are making a natural alternative to grass. You will always find the labels specifically saying that the product is made from synthetic materials. The final look, feel and design of the fake turf, however, resemble that of its natural counterpart.
Synthetic Turf is ExpensiveSynthetic turf is considered a very expensive item. A gardener may tell you about the cheap natural alternative to fake grass. He or she would wax eloquent about natural grass but may not tell you about the costs involved in installation and maintenance. Natural grass is expensive to maintain as it wilts very quickly. You need to hose it down regularly and use pesticides and other chemicals to keep infestations at bay. You need money for that as well as for maintaining the grass in a proper form. Compare this with fake grass where you only need to spend on the initial installation. The grass does not wilt and the watering requirements are not as harsh.
Synthetic Turf SmellsThere is a misconception that synthetic turf reeks of rotten fertilizer. You will also find some other stories about smells that emanate from fake turf. In reality, synthetic turf will not have any tangible smell. It all depends on the quality of fibers used in making the turf. The cheapest varieties may smell a little after a heavy shower but you will not find any overpowering odors emanating from them. You can minimize the smell by following the maintenance instructions that come in the users’ manual.
Synthetic Turf Is Fragile
Another myth surrounding artificial turf is that it is fragile and does not last long. This myth is the most preposterous of all. It has been a proven fact that synthetic turf lasts much longer than natural grass. There are many factors that contribute towards the durability of fake grass.
First and foremost is the construction where artificial fibers are used to emulate the shape, feel and design of natural grass. These fibers are much stronger than their natural counterparts and can withstand heat and moisture. This is not true of natural grass that tends to wilt in a few weeks after installation. The sturdier fibers are encased in special flooring that can be affixed to the ground. The flooring material itself is quite strong and comes with excellent drainage facilities.
All things considered, synthetic grass is a stronger, durable and economical alternative to natural grass. You can use the same grass for years as long as you are following the maintenance instructions.
