Putting Green Turf in Public Parks
Posted by Matt Garrabrants on
Many park managers are turning to artificial turf after trying their hands – and tiring of – growing and maintaining the natural grass. As a park manager, you need to balance between natural and artificial grass. This is important if you want to keep a section of your park ever green. This is the place usually at the front of the park – near the entrance – that you want to keep green and shiny all round the year. The best way of doing this is to install artificial grass. The lines below will give you an idea on how to do it right.
Why Fake Turf?
Public park administrators around the world have opened up to the possibility of replacing natural grass with fake turf. They do not replace the grass of entire park with synthetic turf but do it only sparingly. The trend is largely rooted in the need for a permanent greenery in the park. An evergreen verdure with a thick canopy of flowers is visually appealing and enhances the elegance of the park. The fake turf will stay green during the driest of weather and freezing winter, thus adding a unique edge to your facility.
Artificial turf also come in handy during ceremonies and other events where you need to have an expanse of green. Simply install artificial turf and you will have different shades of colors brightening up the space.
How to choose Fake Turf?
The real test comes when you visit stores and try to narrow down on a few varieties of artificial grass. The best part about this search is that you will find hundreds of varieties of fake grass. It will be difficult to choose between them given the diversity. You can zero in on the best varieties by focusing on two key features.
The first is the construction of the fake grass and the second is the maintenance regimen. The structure is of utmost importance as it will help you in understanding the behavior of the grass. Most fake turf varieties use polyethylene and polypropylene blend while others have a nylon construction. You can choose between the two as they both perform exceptionally well. There are some new additions to this variety where fake turf is made from such materials that do not require any watering at all. These type of synthetic materials can last for years and stay green and healthy.
Maintenance
You will still need some maintenance procedures for the artificial grass in your park. This will essentially include watering the grass though the frequency will depend on the construction of the fake turf. Some grasses need daily watering while you will not need to hose down the fake turf at all if it is made from some new tougher materials. Another thing to do is to remove the debris that you can do manually or with the help of a vacuum cleaner.
Putting green turf in a public park is a good idea as long as you have spend some time and effort in planning and execution.
