Five Artificial Turf Myths Debunked
Posted by Matt Garrabrants on
Artificial turf has gained currency around the world. The lure of an ever-green grass, even if its artificial turf, has tickled the fancy of home-owners after winning fans in the corporate world. It is a good idea to install artificial turf at your home or commercial property. All you need is to have an idea of the basics of fake turf so as to get the best grass for your home or office.
1. Artificial Turf is not Real
This is the first thing you need to know. Some people still confuse fake turf for its natural counterpart. The stand-out feature of artificial turf is that it is not natural yet it offers the same feel and visual appeal. The imitation part of the fake grass is the most distinguishing feature where many can't even tell apart the two. Synthetic grass looks as natural as it comes except for a very closer inspection that will reveal its inorganic structure.
2. Artificial Turf is Durable
There is some confusion about the durability of fake turf. Some say that it can only last for a few weeks. While this was true for the earlier varieties of artificial grass, the newer lot is highly durable. It can easily outlive its natural counterpart by months, if not years. There are many problems inherent with natural grass. You cannot rely on it to stay green and healthy for months. Then there is the element of constant care and lack of proper watering will result in the grass quickly dying out.
3. Artificial Turf is Economical
A common myth about artificial turf is that it is expensive. This myth has been rooted in the fact that you spend more on installing fake turf than natural grass. This is a one time expense though as you will not need to replace the turf every other month. The grass will stay green for a long period of time. This is not the case with natural grass that needs frequent replacement.
4. Artificial Turf is Smelly
Another perception about fake turf is that it emanates a putrid smell. There is some truth to this myth as earlier varieties of fake grass did emanate some smell. The problem, however, has long been resolved as contemporary fake grass does not smell as bed after a rain shower as its natural cousin. Modern artificial turf comes with excellent drainage system that quickly carries the water away from the top layer.
5. Artificial Turf is Hard to Maintain
A myth circulates in the gardening circle saying that artificial turf is hard to maintain. An explanation of the myth would reveal that it is nothing but a piece of fiction. You do not need to water some varieties of fake grass while others only require infrequent hosing down. There is no need of using fertilizers, mulch and other ingredients required for natural grass. You do not even need to cut the grass as it comes in standard shape and size.
Artificial turf has become the gold standard and is gradually taking over the world. It will thus be a wise decision to be among the pioneers by installing it in your home or commercial property.
