How to Choose Artificial Grass Properly

Posted by Matt Garrabrants on Jun 06, 2013

The artificial turf market had blossomed in recent years with a dramatic increase in the number of suppliers and retailers who offer such items. In the interests of ensuring that you choose the most suitable and appropriate type of artificial grass for your needs, please read this article before making a final decision.

The following is an overview of some questions and issues to contemplate in depth prior to the purchase of artificial grass being made.

What sort of environment will the artificial grass be in?
Like all other synthetic items, artificial grass has a finite lifespan and its longevity will be directly determinable according to the level of foot traffic that it is exposed to. Therefore, if you are installing artificial grass in a high population density area then you will want to ensure that the artificial grass that you ultimately choose is capable of withstanding such grueling punishment.

Choosing synthetic grass which is suited for lower foot traffic will mean that you will reach the end of the usable lifespan of the synthetic grass in a much shorter space of time, incurring additional expenses in both time and money.

With that in mind then, it maybe tempting to think that it is wisest and safest to simply purchase high density synthetic turf which will be able to withstand a substantial amount of wear and tear. However, it is worth noting that this is not entirely recommended and the reason for this is due to the fact that tougher, more durable types of artificial grass will invariably be manufactured with materials that are coarser and more abrasive.

This maybe problematic if you have small children who will be playing in the artificial grass, as the risk of skin abrasions and friction burns is increased. Therefore, you will need to make a judgement call as to whether or not high density or low density artificial grass is best for you.

Physical dimensions of the surface area to be covered
Love of money maybe the root of all evil, but awareness of cost is the root of all sound business ideas and decisions. With that in mind then, it will be necessary to ensure that you get precise measurements concerning the intended area where the artificial grass will be installed to in order to defray the potential bill associated with the final purchase.

Be aware of both capital and running expenses
When you purchase artificial grass not only will you be paying an initial sum of money to actually own the item, but furthermore you will also invariably incur running costs as well, such as the cost of cleaning, repairing or replacing said artificial grass. If you are planning on installing artificial grass to a larger area then you may want to opt for artificial grass products which are specifically designed to be low maintenance. This will save you both time and money in the long term.

Whilst the novelty of caring for your synthetic lawn maybe alluring in the beginning, you may find your patience dwindling!
