Artificial Turf for Schools

Posted by Matt Garrabrants on Apr 22, 2013

Schools may seem to be the last place to install fake turf but many in the United States and other parts of the world have started embracing the phenomenon. There are many reasons for the growing popularity of artificial turf. It is the financial problems, however, that are causing schools to change their thinking about fake grass. Schools, both public and private, find it hard to keep up the lawns and playgrounds with natural grass.

Public schools in particular find it hard to do that given the dwindling budgets. Private schools also like to save money on landscaping or find ways to do it in a minimally expensive manner. This is where artificial turf enters the picture and offers some of the best alternatives to natural grass.

Financial Aspect
First and foremost consideration for any establishment is to look at the finances. The same goes for schools where the decision makers have to take the pros and cons of everything in mind before reaching a conclusion. Natural grass is the usual choice and has been the staple of American schools for decades. The financial crunch, however, makes it harder to keep the grass green and tidy and replant the grafts every so often. Schools are the worst places for natural grass due to heavy toll they take due to sports and fun activities.

It all adds up to a costly expense that can be avoided by shifting to fake grass. Like its natural counterpart, artificial turf also stays green and tidy. It, however, does not come with the wilting and easy-to-uproot properties. There is one-time expenditure on installation and the grass will stay put for many months and years to come.

Beauty
It all boils down to beauty at the end of the day. Schools, like homes and commercial establishments, have to look beautiful with well landscaped lawns and green verdure. This can be achieved by having a mix of natural and fake beauty. You can keep the flowers and plants and combine them with a mix of natural and artificial grass. It is better to start at a low pace when installing artificial turf. You can install the grass in the main garden area while keeping the playgrounds in their previous form. This will enable you to get to know the fake grass better and if it is suitable for your establishment.

The next logical step will be to install artificial turf in the sports fields. Baseball field turf now comes in a diverse variety and some of these do not require watering. Keeping up the baseball field turf green and healthy is an arduous job and you can do away with the hassle by replacing natural grass with fake turf. The one-time expenditure can also be done on replacing the grass in the athletics area and practice spaces.

Maintenance is a breeze when it comes to fake turf. You will only need to remove the debris and hose down the fake lawn and turfs as prescribed in the user manual. There is no cropping and no application of pesticides either.
