Choosing the Right Artificial Turf

Posted by Matt Garrabrants on Oct 24, 2012

Once you've decided on a supplier for your synthetic turf, you have to spend a lot of time and research knowing the products so you get the right one to fill your needs. If you don’t know what your requirements are, then you have your work cut out for you. A whole host of reasons will influence your decisions so it is best to go into this knowing as much as you can.

You need to know four main factors that will be the most important in helping you decide whether a certain artificial lawn is right for you. Firstly, a high quality fake lawn doesn't come cheap. You need to get something that fits your budget, and if you've selected the right supplier for your artificial grass, they’ll have a range of products that will suit your budget and provide you with the quality you’re looking for.

If your heart is set on the highest quality stuff and you’re stretching your budget, one tip is to turn it into a do-it-yourself project that will save you the delivery and installation expenses.

The second factor that is just as important is: what is the purpose of your new field turf? Are you creating a backyard paradise where you can set some beautiful lawn furniture and a lovely rock pool where you can just relax and maybe have the occasional picnic? Or is your objective creating a sturdy sports pitch on your lawn where you and your children can play sports and your pets can wander to their heart’s content?

Both these designs require different varieties of Astroturf. With sports you will undoubtedly slip and fall at some point during the game and you will need to get the highest quality artificial lawn grass to make sure that you have the most durable variety that will withstand damage, and that you have the softest product in the market that will prevent burns and scratches.

Thirdly, who is your garden being designed for? Do you require a haven that is child and pet friendly, with soft, supple grass that is gentle on hands, knees and paws? If so, the texture of your artificial lawn grass will be soft and springy so as to not harm delicate skin. It will also be nice to get the high quality variety to give your kids and your pets something realistic to play on!

And lastly, you should go with your gut feeling. Rely on your instinct to tell you what you want and what you should buy. Choose the product that you think will provide you the most satisfaction and that you think will not need constant replacement.

It will be your lawn at the end of the day and do not feel like you need to follow someone else’s advice to get the right product, if it contradicts your own instinct. An important thing to remember regarding this is that the highest price does not ensure the greatest satisfaction. Put some extra thought into your purchase and you should come out feeling happy.
